Told Ya The World Wasn't Over: Pens Win

What a game by Marc-Andre Fleury. Just a ridiculous performance! Shutting out a top caliber Western playoff team in Calgary. Best of all, Hal Gill of all people scored a goal which made the win much sweeter for he scores once in a blue moon.

Clearly the Flames had so many opportunities but Fleury stood on his head. Though it was a 2-0 game it was clearly the best 2-0 game all season.

Boston, Jersey and Washington clinched spots

Philly, Carolina, Pittsburgh, NY Rangers, Montreal: 4-8

Florida and Buffalo are fucked.

It's Not The End Of The World: Penguins Lose

I know I don't like to lose. Hell the Columbus loss was a "meh" moment for me when it came to the loss, but something about losing to Philly that gets me. I know its not the end of the world, but I know this loss will make the Pens much tougher and better. Face it, Biron was out of his mind. The Pens couldn't get bounces. Just an overall tough day in the office. I'm beginning to not like the 3rd jerseys. I'm a superstitious guy, and these damn sweaters have been a thorn in my ass since they've been instituted.

BURN EM'

I feel sick posting a recap. But 2 Flyer power play goals. Kris Letang cuts it in half with 10 minutes left. Some jackass with an empty netter. Frustrating afternoon. Good thing I was at work the rest of the day.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm Gonna Burn That Jersey!

The Good News is the Rangers lost to the Senators. Hooray for that.

At least tonight you'll get an in-depth update plus entertaining standings as of Sunday March 22nd, 2009... Each team will be described as a TGIF character with explanation.

1. Boston Bruins: 102 Points (9 Games Left)

-The big picture is they're the Northeast champs and is also one step to clinching the conference after a big win vs. Jersey.

TGIF character: Stefan Urkel

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? They're cool. They have a swag. But can be overly cocky, and it has bit them in the ass.

2. New Jersey Devils: 97 Points (10 Games Left)

-The definition of consistency. Now with Marty Brodeur back, they are arguably the most dangerous team in the playoffs.

TGIF character: Carl Winslow

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? They're always there. They're respected. They just get the job done, just like Officer Winslow.

3. Washington Capitals: 96 Points (8 Games Left)

-A.O and company need some serious pushing for them to make any noise in the playoffs. If Ovechkin doesn't score, they are usually not going to do squat. Mike Green can be a key to their playoff success if he continues to produce.

TGIF Character: Danielle Fishel "Topanga" from Boy Meets World

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? The only reason you watch TGIF was for her and like Topanga that is why you watch Washington Capitals hockey... For Alexander Ovechkin. When you relive her 90's hotness she was gold, but then fizzle in the 2000's and she's screwed. Same with you Ovechkin... Don't fizzle in the playoffs.

4. Philadelphia Flyers: 88 Points (11 Games Left)

-A few games in hand and staying on the winning side can give the Orange and Black some success in playoffs. Question is just in goal and if Marty Biron can be that guy. And would the real Danny Briere please stand up in the playoffs?

TGIF character: Weasel from Family Matters

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? Like him, their fans are annoying. Their players look like him, and he's someone that you just hated on the show.

5. Pittsburgh Penguins 86 Points (8 Games Left)

-Left for dead at the deadline, but the Kunitz and Guerin moves proved to be a success... For now? Can it hold up in a 7 game series?

TGIF character: Shawn Hunter and Cory Matthews "Boy Meets World"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? Its Malkin and Crosby. What a tandem! Though they can have some success and ability to overcome on their own, together they can accomplish anything.

6. Carolina Hurricanes: 85 Points (8 Games Left)

-They just keep finding ways to get points. Very underrated goalie. Can be a darkhorse in the playoffs.

TGIF Character: Christine Lakin... "Al from Step By Step"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? No one cared for them when she was younger or early in the season like the Hurricanes, but when the show got older and the season wore on, people started to notice her hotness. Nice job Carolina.

7. NY Rangers: 84 Points (9 Games Left)

-The team is on the winning track right now. Unfortunately they just can't seem to climb up since the other teams their chasing are also winning.

TGIF Character: Mark Cooper "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper."

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? Cause no matter what his show does, it's not Family Matters, Boy Meets World, or Step By Step.

8. Montreal Canadiens: 81 Points (10 Games Left)

-Midseason coaching change didn't bode well for the Habs. They're unmotivated, playing bad hockey and floundering all at once.

TGIF Character: Cody from Step By Step

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? Though he is cool and a favorite by a lot of fans like the Canadiens, inside has a dark secret of domestic violence. I think the domestic dispute with Montreal has also come out with the firing of their head coach weeks ago.

-----SHIT OUT OF LUCK-----

9. Florida Panthers: 80 Points (10 Games Left)

-Better make a move fast or else they'll lose their best player for nothing and the team accomplished nothing by keeping him at the deadline.

TGIF Character: Mother Winslow from Family Matters

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? Cause she's old and that's what Florida is just known for... Old people. Not a Stanley Cup contender.

10. Buffalo Sabres: 76 Points (10 Games Left)

-Gotta laugh at something right? Well here you. Laugh at their dimunitive playoff chances. You fuck up enough times and you become a legend in Buffalo. Google Scott Norwood. Or The Buffalo Sabres. Or Even The Buffalo Bills special teams.

TGIF Character: Chet Hunter "Boy Meets World"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Why? He was Shawn's dad and finally got to get some air-time. But his opportunity (like the Sabres) ran out and he ended up dying.

Saturday Night Saturday Night!!!

Let's get down to business...

*Rangers 5 Buffalo 3: The Sabres are now officially on life support. It's just a matter of time when the plug is pulled.

*Carolina 4 Capitals 1: Man the Canes meant business in the third! Scoring 3 goals to send a message to Southeast leading Washington.

*Leafs 5 Montreal 2: The Bob Gainey Experiment is slowly dying along with the Habs. Not even George St. Pierre can give this team enough fight. They look disinterested to me.

*Columbus 3 Florida 1: Bad loss for Florida. Clinging on to a 1 goal lead and your Florida is like having your girlfriend around handsome, charming European men. Something is gonna give. Columbus were those guys.

So as of Saturday Night...

1. B's 100 Pts: Clinched Playoff Spot. Yey them. Start playing again instead of coasting though.

2. Jersey 97 Pts: Will get it next

3. JOKES 96 Pts: The hate of AO is starting to loom.

4. Philly 86 Pts: Huge seeding game vs. Pittsburgh Sunday

5. PENGUINS 86 Pts: Beat Philly and they get home ice.

6. Carolina 85 Pts: The Hurricanes and Cam Ward are gonna be an underrated bunch in the playoffs.

7. NY Rangers 84 Pts: 4-7 is so close right now. A losing streak can just ruin you. It's not a jinx to you New York.

8. Montreal 81 Pts: You mess with the Bull, you get the horns.

-----SHIT OUT OF LUCK-----

9. Florida 80 Pts: If they don't make the playoffs, they lose Bouwmeester in the summer for diddly poo.

10. Buffalo 76 Pts: What we have here is a situation where they are brain dead and is just living off of a machine. Do we just pull it?

Sunday Tilts...

Beat L.A!!! Done

The Penguins continue to keep rolling along and defeat the Kings 4-1. The Kings are a nice hard working young team, but they just ran into a more powerful bunch. Sidney Crosby scored a goal and an assist and Evgeni Malkin padded his scoring lead with a goal and an assist of his own. There is no doubt that he will be this year's Art Ross Trophy winner as well as the MVP of the league. Book it. Tyler Kennedy and Billy Guerin also scored for Pittsburgh and they earn another big important 2 points.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Amidst all the points they were trying to earn a month ago, we fail to forget that there was another sellout of the Igloo tonight. Big ups to the Penguins fans for sticking with the team!

In Other Games...

Carolina 5 NY Islanders 4: Man the Canes exploded after being down 2 goals, with three straight. Huge 2 points for them tonight at the expense of the hapless Islanders.

Philadelphia 6 Buffalo 4: The Sabres are falling apart! How the hell do you blow another home lead? They really don't deserve it!

A Historical Night...

...Usually I'll start the blog off with the Penguins, but New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur steals the show. Look the Pens and Devils have met in some epic battles and I've grown to hate the team and the goalie, but you have to respect his accomplishment tonight with his 552nd win; breaking Patrick Roy's All-Time Goalie Wins Record.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Arguably The Best Goaltender Of All-Time With That Win.

Now to the task at hand which is the playoff push...

The Pens demolished Atlanta tonight with a 6-2 victory. The Thrashers actually had a 6 game winning streak going into the game tonight. To add to it, they scored the first goal 30 seconds in. Then the much maligned Penguin power play pulled a Jesus and rose from the dead and struck. It started with a Sergei Gonchar slapper. Then as the first period ended, Chris Kunitz puts in a rebound off a Sidney Crosby shot to give the Pens a 2-1 lead.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Folk Hero Status Growing!

The 2nd Period Was All Pittsburgh and How Evgeni Malkin is solidifying himself as the league's MVP. First Jordan Staal gets popped but gets up to find a seam and buries a shot pass former Penguin Playoff hero Johan Hedberg. Then Geno strikes with goals number 31 and 32 on a power play slapper from the right wing. Atlanta scores a garbage goal to make the score 5-2 at the end of 2.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Any Questions???

The third was just a matter of if Malkin was gonna get the hat trick, but wait the world has ended as Mark Eaton scores a goal to push the game 6-2.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This pic ruined most computer screen by it's "beast-ness"

Then Malkin gets his chance for his hat trick as he was hauled down on a breakaway. Penalty shot. No dice... Probably the only thing that didn't go right for the Pens.

Highlight Central

In Other Games Of Importance...

*Rangers 4 Montreal 3 OT/Shootout: Both teams earned a point with the Rags getting the extra to overtake the Habs in the standings for now. Carey Price looked like shit on the shootout.

*Sabres 2 Ottawa 4: Buffalo keeps pooping on their own season by losing these games they should be winning against non-playoff teams.

*Philly 2 Red Wings 3: Philly had a 1 goal lead in Joe Louis and fucked up. It is my lucky day! Detroit scores 2 in a span of 2 minutes for the win.

*JOKES 3 Florida 0: Solid win for the Caps. Bad loss for the Cats. I still hate you Washington.

STANDINGS as of Wednesday March 18th at Midnight

1. Bruins 99 Pts (11 Left): They're slowly lolly-gagging the last few games. Don't fuck around or you'll get burned. This is what happens when you get out into a huge lead in the Conference early in the year.

2. New Jersey 95 Pts (13 Left): They're catching up, I TOLD YOU! Plus the world's greatest goalie is now a all-time record holder.

3. Washington JOKES 94 Pts (10 Left): They're sailing the ship. I still hate you though.

4. Philly 84 Pts (13 Left): Shitty loss after working so hard at the Joe tonight. Oh well! Helps us more.

5. PENGUINS 84 Pts (10 Left): Philly gets the nod cause of games in hand. The home-cookin' continues on Friday against LA. Gotta keep winning them.

6. NY Rangers 82 Pts (11 Left): Big 2 pts on the road.

7. Montreal 80 Pts (12 Left): Earned a point but not consistent enough under the new boss. Carey Price has too many holes than swiss cheese.

8. Carolina 79 Pts (11 Left): The fighting Eric Staal's play Wednesday.

-----SHIT OUT OF LUCK-----

9. Florida 78 Pts (12 Left): They gotta build a sense of consistency or else it's another lonely spring for the Cats.

10. Buffalo 76 Pts (12 Left): Man this team is digging themselves a hole that cannot be explain. Actually yes I can explain it. They can't beat teams out of the playoff race. A supposed easy 2.

Wednesday Games

*New Jersey @ Carolina: Can be a big let down game for Jersey. The Canes can capitalize after the Brodeur historic moment.

Happy St. Patty's Day!!!

All's quiet on the Penguins front tonight. But here's the list of important contests on St. Patrick's Day...

*Atlanta @ PENGUINS: Atlanta smooshed Washington tonight. Hope they scored all of their goals tonight.

*Philly @ Red Wings: Pens only 2 points back from the 4 seed. But Philly has 3 games in hand. Tough test against the champs

*Capitals @ Florida: AO and Co have a date in America's Wang.

*Buffalo @ Ottawa: No love lost when these two meet. Remember those hardcore ass playoff battles?

*NY Rangers @ Montreal: Playoff positioning game here. Both at 80 pts.

Big Big Win

Sometimes winning a game like this is just what the Penguins needed after a tough third period and OT yesterday vs. Ottawa. I'll be the first to say that if you love scoring, this was your type of game. Yes Chris Kunitz got a hat trick taken away. But the big picture is the Pens earned an important 2 points in the playoff race. Sid looked amazing with the puck today and his first line simply was sensational with Kunitz and Guerin.

Goals
*Bill Guerin one times one early in the contest: Pens 1-0
*Not even a minute later former Penguin Mark Recchi redirects one: 1-1
*Phil Kessel gives Boston the lead off a nice pass from Blake Wheeler: Bruins 2-1
*Chris Kunitz bounces one off his skate on a power play: 2-2
*Blake Wheeler shorthanded: B's 3-2
*First it was Kunitz but later changed to Gonchar on the Power Play: 3-3
*Kunitz on a pretty breakaway: Pens 4-3
*Michael Ryder off of a turnover: Tie 4-4
*Petr Sykora rises from the dead: Pens 5-4
*Jordan Staal empty netter seals it: Pens 6-4

Other Game

*Rangers split home and home with the Flyers

MARCH MADNESS IS CRAZY!!!

All In The Name Of Disgust

If the Penguins are going to be a force in the playoffs, they need to stop blowing 2 goal leads. Saturday's game was another example of why it is a 60 minute game. Eric Godard (YES HIM), Sidney Crosby and Tyler Kennedy help get the Pens a 3-1 lead, but in the third, Ottawa ends up tying the game. Marc-Andre Fleury absolutely saves them from not earning a point with sensational save after save in the third and OT. So the game goes into a shootout.

Letang: Miss
Alfredsson: Goal
Sykora: Miss
Spezza: Miss
Crosby: Goal... Ties it

Malkin: Miss

That was a big extra point that the Pens didn't get. But they have a game Sunday so they must forget it. Let's see the other games.

*Philly 4 Rangers 2: NY loses the first of a home and home. Arron Asham scores 2 goals in the third for the Flyers

*Devils 3 Montreal 1: Habs lose another and Devils goalie Marty Brodeur ties Terry Sawchuk for 2nd all time in goalie wins.

*Lightning 4 Florida 3 OT: Lightning come back with 2 in the 3rd and the shootout win. Point for the Panthers though.

*Thrashers 4 Buffalo 3 OT: Oh Buffalo. You had the 2 points, but the loose Thrashers score twice late to tie it and win it in the shootout. Can't keep fucking up like this Buffalo.

*Capitals 5 Carolina 4 OT: Carolina comes back from 2 down and earn a point. Ovechkin scores number 49

Point Well Taken...

Ladies and gentlemen, these aren't those Columbus Blue Jackets that is usually making reservations for the golf course this time of year. They have a playoff spot to maintain. They are a bunch of hungry young guys with enough drive to lead themselves to their first playoff berth in franchise history. Looking at their last 3 wins (Penguins, Bruins, Red Wings), it is time to give them some due which I will, but this blog is mainly Penguins only so we'll talk more about them.

Well a lot of people basically turned the TV off early in the 3rd period when the Jackets took a 3-0 lead. But while watching this game, I continued to have that same feeling that they were going to come back. Today though, it was a thought that if they just get a goal and dent young goalie Steve Mason, they can attempt something. They did when Sergei Gonchar scored on a power play with less than 12 minutes left. They had a pulse...

...Then a little over a minute later, a ghastly turnover by Columbus which led to a Pascal Dupuis goal. 3-2 with an eternity left. BTW, if anybody in a Penguin sweater needed that goal it was Dupuis. The guy kept getting chance after chance with no dice. Now the Pens had life.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
YAY ME!

They kept pressuring but Steve Mason was just up to the task until a little gamble by Coach Byslma...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
You Gotta Know When To Hold Em, When To Fold Em, Know When To Put Sid, Geno and Mad Max In One Line

...He puts Sid, Malkin and Max Talbot in one line and just like Game 5 in Detroit last year, after some work on the boards, Mad Max ties it up and the Penguins fans rejoice in Columbus!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
GAMBLED AND WON!

The Pens kept pressuring but Mason was up to it. And the Pens earned a point as the clocks hit 0:00. OT produced some chances but both goalies were on their game now.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Shootout time!!!

J-Will up... Fleury Stones Him

Letang up... Mason Saves It

Columbus' Best Player Rick Nash up and Fleury denies him

Sid The Kid... Was Just That A Kid Against Mason

Kristian Huselius fires a wicked wrister past Fleury 1-0 Jackets

Malkin with the last chance... He's on acid... Saved

Blue Jackets get the extra point...

The Pens earned a well deserved point and it was credit to Columbus goalie Steve Mason for preventing them from acquiring the extra point. But one is still better than none.

Let's see how the other games did

*Buffalo 3 Florida 1: Lifesaver win by Buffalo... It keeps their life jackets on. Tough loss for the Cats. This time of the year, you really need points to keep pace.

*NY Islanders 3 Montreal 2 OT: The Habs poop on themselves and loses to a team who hasn't won a road game in forever! Though they earned a point, they damn sure should of gotten that extra point.

*NY Rangers 4 Nashville 2: Big win by the Rags! Sean Avery scored... No jokes there.

*Carolina 2 Dallas 3: My theory was correct. 2nd of a back to back for the Canes. Dallas with a 6 game losing streak. It was a recipe for Dallas' misery to end... And it did.

WHERE ARE WE NOW????? Thru Thu 3/12/09

1. Boston: 97 Pts (13 Left): Won tonight

2. New Jersey: 91 Pts (15 Left): Dominating win at home vs. Coyotes. One hot streak away from catching up to Boston.

3. Washington: 90 Pts (13 Left): Impressive win at Philly. But you guys are still JOKES!

4. Philadelphia: 82 Pts (16 Left): Need to win with these games in hand.

5. Montreal: 80 Pts (14 Left): Should've gotten the extra point.

6. PENGUINS: 79 Pts (13 Left): Lucky point tonight! We'll take it!

7. NY Rangers: 78 Pts (14 Left): Nice road win at the Honky Tonk

8. Carolina: 78 Pts (12 Left): Tough way to lose a back-to-hack. Would've been huge!

-----SHIT OUT OF LUCK-----

9. Florida: 77 Pts (14 Left): Bad loss in Buffalo. Injuries are piling up.

10. Buffalo: 75 Pts (14 Left): Cue up Stayin' Alive by Bee Gees!

No games of importance tomorrow so a day-off, but we'll be up on Saturday again.

Shoulda been a quiet evening with the Hurricanes on the verge of losing until Mr. Ruutu struck for them with 26 seconds left. But at least Chicago got the extra point. Whatever. Shit happens. There's gonna be days like that. But the thing is, the Penguins just need to keep winning. Columbus is the next game Thursday.

Don't Call It A Comeback: Pens Win!

It was just one of those nights during a winning streak. When you just feel like everything is too good for the Penguins to not win. I was at a class when the Pens fell down to the Cats 3-1 at the end of the 2nd period. But for some reason, I felt they would come back. I mean I usually feel like that just to stay optimistic, but today was just a great feeling of confidence for the team. Like the feeling of sheer genious after the game was over. A month ago, they lose this game, but playoff lives are on the line and it seemed like Jesus was watching.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Go Pens My Son!

In a nutshell, the Pens took a 1-0 lead when Evgeni Malkin roofs a garbage goal off of a Crosby pass. Then the wheels came off and the Panthers scored 3 consecutive goals in the 2nd from unusual characters. Kudos to them for playing hard with one of their top d-men and forwards out. But the third was a playoff atmosphere period. Jordan Staal was out of his mind that period, scoring a rebound goal making it 3-2 and then those "bounces" that we've been waiting for all season or even thought of when they were down 3-1 at the end of 2 happened. Off a 4 on 2 rush, Billy Guerin shoots the puck which deflects off of Crosby's stick and hits the post and bounces off a sprawling Tomas Vokoun. Tie game. No scores in OT. With each team earning a point, the shootout gives them a chance to earn the extra one.

*Kris Letang up first and is money... 1-0 Pens

7 in a row... 9 of 10... They have to keep earning those 2 points. Next game is @ Columbus with a goalie who's pitched 10 shutouts this season.

SCOREBOARD WATCH

*Buffalo Scott Norwood's themselves and gets shalacked by Philadelphia 5-2

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Not Funny Guys!

*Montreal has some drama happen to them within the last 24 hours and it carries over for some more drama with a 4-3 OT win vs. Edmonton. Captain Saku Koivu nets the game tying and game winning goals.

So Now The Crazy Ass Eastern Conference Standings After Tuesday Night (Games Left in Parenthesis)...

1. Boston 95 Pts (14): Even after a shutout loss tonight to Columbus, they are still at the top of the conference.

2. New Jersey 89 Pts (16): If they make up the 2 games with wins, they'll only be 2 pts back of the top seed. With Marty Brodeur in goal, that can easily happen.

3. Washington 88 Pts (14): Slowly floundering. But a big OT win at Nashville though tonight.

4. Philadelphia 82 Pts (17): Big huge win @ home against Buffalo. With their games in hand, they can certainly climb the ladder with more victories.

5. Montreal 79 Pts (15): Huge OT comeback win tonight. The Habs showed some guts tonight.

6. PENGUINS 78 Pts (14): If the playoffs started today, guess who we play??? Wishful thinking?

7. Florida 77 Pts (15): Earned a deserved point tonight. Gonna need McCabe and Horton back soon though.

8. Carolina 77 Pts (14): The fighting Eric Staal's keep truckin' along.

-----SHIT OUT OF LUCK-----

9. NY Rangers 76 Pts (15): Need to keep winning to keep pace.

10. Buffalo 73 Pts (15): Inside they're slowly dying... Yes I quoted a Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam song.

Wednesday's Games To Focus On...

*Carolina @ Chicago: Those damn kids in Chicago can certainly give the Canes a hard time.

Song of Tuesday...

The Case Of The Mondays

First off... The comments about Montreal the first few posts was proved correct as the Canadiens fired their head coach. Trying to take a page out of the Pens' coaching change may be a little risky. The Habs have horribly underachieved all year and this has the makings of a major overhaul if it fails. Where I'm from hockey is NOT a hotbed and no one really cares, but in Montreal, if you don't win or be successful, you are disowned and the key to the city is shoved up your ass.

Take it from me, Montreal hates ME.

Anyways just one Monday game to recap...

-Carolina shuts the Rangers out 3-0: This win by the Hurricanes makes things much more crowded in the East like NHL'ers with Elisha Cuthbert! Ziiing! Had to throw in a Sean Avery joke there.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
If I end up with Alex Ovechkin next, hell has officially frozen over.

So standings-wise (Games Left)

1-4: Boston, Jersey, JOKES, Philly
5. Montreal 77 Pts (16): You're playing with fire Montreal.
6: Carolina: 77 Pts (14): Another team on a roll right now.
7. Florida: 76 Pts (16): Big game tomorrow
8. PENGUINS: 76 Pts (15): 8-1-1 in last 10. Finally a home game

-----SHIT OUT OF LUCK-----
9. NY Rangers: 76 Pts (15): Pens got more wins than you.
10. Buffalo: 73 Pts (16): Can T.O suit up too?

Tuesday's Agenda...

*FLORIDA @ PENGUINS: If you don't understand the magnitude of this game, then you didn't read the above post and shouldn't be on this blog or you sir/ma'am have no pulse or soul and you should just stand walk through a crowded freeway. My Penguins come home after a 5 game road trip. It has the makings of a trap game since the first home game after a long road trip is the hardest, but no need for excuses. They have a playoff spot to reach. Must prove once again that Florida is America's Wang.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
PROOF!!!

*Buffalo @ Philadelphia: Philly wins, the ghosts of Scott Norwood, Brett Hull and Kevin Dyson is slowly rearing its ugly head for the city of Buffalo.

*Edmonton @ Montreal: First game with a new/old coach Bob Gainey. If this don't work, they should hire G.S.P to coach the Habs.

WHAT A BEAST and he's French Canadian!

Song of the day...

Story behind this: While in Chicago on their road trip, the Penguins ended up winning the game in overtime and Penguins forward Eric Godard blasted this song in the locker room and apparently was dancing... They have not lost since and it's been played inside the Pens locker room (apparently) during the trip.

The Crosby Show

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A Beautiful Sight To See.

Washington vs. Pittsburgh doesn't have the lore of Red Sox/Yankees, Duke/UNC, or even Dodgers/Giants, but to a self indulging Penguins fan like myself today's game exemplified many things:

1. Why I hate the Capitals

2. Why I love playoff atmosphere hockey

3. Why I get extra giddy when those red jerseys are opposite our white ones.

4. Why Pittsburgh will ALWAYS own Washington.

What kind of a joke is Capitals owner Ted Leonsis? Trying every which way to not allow Penguins fans to dominate his stadium and year after year he fails. Today was no exception. As you will see in the highlights, all the Penguins fans roaring on goals by the supposed "road" team.

Joke's On You. But I Can't Hear You. We Scored Again On Your Home Ice.

In a nutshell... The new guys (Billy Guerin and Chris Kunitz) was money with Crosby, the Pens were composed even after blowing yet another 2 goal lead, and Sidney Crosby made a statement today that he is back! But most importantly Marc-Andre Fleury was stellar in OT and the shootout. 6 game win streak. You knew as a fan that the Pens definitely lose this game after blowing the lead maybe a month ago. Times have changed now and a 5-0 roadtrip was the first in history. What's next... HOME GAMES!!! Now the Pens can make their move...

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER

Hat Tricks Galore

Tonight's games did not help much for the idle Penguins. So the best thing for them to do is to continue winning tomorrow and keep above the line. Recap time

-Florida 5 St. Louis 3: David Booth nets 3 in a cats win. Yes the guy who shot Lincoln scored a hat trick. Take the six seed right now.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
"Don't Shoot!"

-Carolina 9 Tampa Bay 3: Eric Staal does you one better John Wilkes Booth. 4 Goals in the raping of Tampa Bay. Man there was such high hopes for the Lightning after they signed all the ex-Penguins in the summer but did that blow up in their faces?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

-Philadelphia 4 Nashville 1: Sons of bitches won tonight. Keep a full nose on everyone in the bottom half of the standings.

-Ottawa 6 Buffalo 3: Alright! A score I liked! Good to see Danny Alfredsson show up once in LIFE!

So through Saturday... (Games Left in Parenthesis)

1-4 Stays The Same: Boston, Jersey, Washington, Philly

5. Florida 76 (16)

6. Montreal 75 (17): Uh oh! Told ya!

7. Carolina 75 (15): Behold the power of Eric Staal. What a beastly game tonight!!!

8. NY Rangers 74 (17): They're in 8th cause they played one less game than the Pens

--------SHIT OUT OF LUCK----------------

9. PENGUINS 74 (16): 2 Games are Huge vs. Washington and Florida

10. Buffalo 73 (16): Bad loss in Ottawa tonight.

Tomorrow's Game(s)

12 Noon Bitches!

Song Of The Day...

EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU WASHINGTON CAPITALS!!!

I Hate Everything About The Capitals. Ted Leonsis. Peter Bondra. Alex Ovechkin. For Every Goal AO Has Scored Against Pittsburgh or Victory Against Them... There's Always Artie...

There's Always Petr Nedved

Or Malkin...

You can respect Ovechkin and his talents. He's a hell of a scorer, but he just plays on the team that I absolutely despise. It doesn't help that the Caps have beaten the Pens like a drum the past few games. But our playoff lives are on the line and somehow someway, I expect them to be the same sorry ass playoff Washington Capitals too.

Go fuck yourself Washington!

Three Six... It's A Doozy

Penguins were off but three games were of importance tonight. Let's recap shall we.

-Carolina Hurricanes had a must win at home and stormed (no pun intended) through the Calgary Flames 6-1

-Buffalo didn't shit on themselves tonight and got it together and defeated the Coyotes.

-Montreal on the other hand played like Celine Dion and sucked major balls against lowly Atlanta. The whole thing about them not doing shit on the trade deadline is slowly haunting them.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
"I'm Impressed Montreal. You Make Me Proud!"

So what does this mean??? Standings Time!!!

1. Bruins 93
2. Devils 87
3. Capitals 85
4. Philly 78
5. Montreal 75: Slowly dying Montreal
6. Florida 74
7. NY Rangers 74
8. PENGUINS 74

Shit Out Of Luck
9. Sabres 73: Stayed in contention. Still waiting for them to shit themselves
10. Carolina 73: Power of Ric Flair stayed with them

WHAT TO WATCH FOR SAT
-Buffalo at Ottawa: No let downs Buffalo... Shenanigans!

-St Louis at Florida: The Cats should be mad

-Carolina at Tampa Bay: OK Tampa. Mother nature game. Hurricane vs. Lightning? Rooting for the latter.

-Nashville at Philadelphia: I got my eye on you now Philly. Don't fuck up.

Song Of The Day
This is to you Montreal... You better stay afloat.

Showdown on Sunday.... Rivalry continues. Penguins @ Capitals. Revenge time.

MVP. If you think otherwise or feel I'm just biased against my own team, then you can go fornicate yourself.

Chase For The Playoffs

So in a nutshell, my Pittsburgh Penguins; once left dead in the water a few weeks ago, is alive and well after a coaching change and acquiring a couple of players. It's gonna be a dogfight and I'll be providing day-by-day updates with a little entertainment on the side as the race continues until mid April for the playoffs. I only give a shit about the Eastern Conference so I'll explain it to people what the situation is. Top 8 make the playoffs. I'll be posting the standings below (as well as how many games remaining each team has). After that I'll be posting what's called a "scoreboard watch," which means the teams that my Penguins are chasing or in a dogfight with. Finally I will post the next day's games of significance. If you need more explanation, feel free to jump off of a cliff.

Obviously most of the U.S aren't hockey fans, so in hockey they go by a point system... Meaning...

-Win=2 Points
-Loss=0 Points
-Overtime=1 Point (Both teams will play for the extra point in OT)
-Overtime Winner= 1 Extra Point

*If the game goes into overtime, both teams earn a point. If no one scores in OT, then it goes to a "shootout." 3 players from each team gets a shot. Whoever scores the most gets the extra point. If it is still tied, they add another shooter (one who hasn't shot yet) until there's a winner... Need visual proof?

Eastern Conference Standings: As of March 5, 2009 (Games Remaining in parenthesis)

1. Boston Bruins: 93 Points (17: Kings of the hill. They rule. They're safe

2. New Jersey Devils: 87 Points (18): Mr. Consistency. They're safe.

3. Washington Capitals: 85 Points (16): Douches! But they're safe... For now

4. Philadelphia Flyers: 78 Points (19): Teetering

5. Montreal Canadiens: 75 Points (18): Where it gets interesting. Distance between 5-10 is a mere 4 points

6. Florida Panthers: 74 Points (17): Surprise team in the mix. Get a higher seed cause they played less games than Penguins and they've owned the Rangers in season series.

7. New York Rangers: 74 Points (17): Also teetering. I hope they fall off.

8. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS: 74 Points (16): Hottest team right now. 5 wins in a row. 7 of 9 since coach was fired and replaced.

---------------------------------SHIT OUT OF LUCK------------------------------------

9. Buffalo Sabres: 71 Points (18): Small market. Young stars. Goalie better not fuck it up.

10. Carolina Hurricanes: 71 Points (17): Staal and that's it. Will drown soon like puppies.

Scoreboard Watch Tonight
*Penguins beat Florida 4-1: Big win. Brought Florida down to earth.
*Rangers beat Islanders 4-2: Rags beat a sorry excuse of a hockey team.

What to watch for 3/6
*Carolina plays Calgary
*Buffalo plays Phoenix
*Montreal plays Atlanta

Song of the day as a Penguins fan.
